About Omo Studio
Each of Omo pieces are thrown on the wheel, one at a time, trimmed, glazed, and fired by Kelly Schirmann. Kelly is a writer and artist based in Missoula, Montana. She uses a range of iron-rich and groggy clays as well as finer porcelain-like clay bodies, which allow for a rich and earthy palettes after firing. Omo ceramics are most often fired in a gas reduction kiln, an atmospheric firing process that pulls oxygen from the clay body when climbing toward peak temperatures, resulting in an allover texture that looks lively and organic.
For this special collaboration with Field Five Flowers, Kelly and Bethany developed a palette of rustic, earthy, and refined clay bodies that complement a range of aesthetics and florals. Each colorway in the collection is left unglazed on its exterior to showcase the raw clay body, and provide a matte backdrop for the florals to shine. Petrichor and Earth are fired in the gas reduction kiln, resulting in darker, textural, earthy vessels reminiscent of ancient clay pots. Salt and Dune are fired in an electric kiln to minimize surface texture, resulting in a refined and consistent lighter palette. Each and every piece is handmade from start to finish here in Missoula, Montana.
Omo Studio’s primary craft are gorgeous lines of everyday stoneware ceramic dishes and vessels. Kelly and her parter, Jay also create stunning paintings and woodwork. Available on their website: omo.studio/shop
